In Far Cry Primal, Ubisoft has successfully combined the best of action and environmental survival to place you in the Stone Age. Here, survival goes beyond just dodging bullets: you must hunt, craft, and build shelter by finding resources throughout Oros.
It’s a dangerous place: predators, rival tribes, and even the weather are all factors that hinder you—especially when traveling at night. In the darkest hours, expect more predators and ambushes, as you rely on your ears to guide you.
The Stone Age vibe of Far Cry Primal is evident even in its gameplay. It’s a first-person action game, but its approach is… innovative. There are no weapons, and to survive, you must craft your own weapons to stand a chance of defeating or taming the wild animals that hunt you.
As a result, Far Cry Primal is intense but fast-paced. You must be patient when attacking or hunting, as you’re always vulnerable to attack and ambush. Choose your moment carefully, and think twice before attacking at night.

In Far Cry Primal, you also have to conquer enemy villages to recruit new members to your tribe. This grants you new powers that help you survive and enable you to progress through the story.
The land of Oros has been recreated in exquisite detail, with all the different tribes carefully dressed in clothing befitting 10,000 BC. The weapons you wield, such as the club, bow, and spear, are all carefully tested. Expect each spearhead to be designed with a point appropriate for each era.
This detail also applies to the characters and animals. The wolves are so hairy you want to hug them… except for their teeth… Then there are the trees that move ominously when a storm approaches.
Finally, there’s the sound. The tribes in Far Cry Primal speak a primitive dialect, which gives the game a more authentic feel—but don’t worry, everything is translated. The ambient sound is also fantastic. No music, just the sound of the world, sets the scene perfectly—especially at night. You’ll feel a constant tension as you listen to the crackling of each branch.
Far Cry Primal is a different kind of action game, and it’s excellent. Not since Chuck Rock has there been a game set in the Stone Age, and it certainly doesn’t compare to Far Cry Primal. From the atmosphere to the gameplay, everything here offers something different and fascinating to current-gen games.
